Are you a croucher, or do you remain standing up once you've got yourself into position when taking a picture?
Me? I alway seem to want to get myself into a squatting position whenever I take a picture (whether it's landscape, people, buildings, etc) as if I want to create the effect of a child's perspective on things.
What's your preferred position, if you have one?

I'm a croucher most of the time, but if I don't want to seem to obvious I stand. Also depends on what I'm shooting, don't want to get too low on certain subjects as it gives the wrong composition for the shoot.

It depends really. Sometime a shot will require standing up and sometime the perspective is better when crouching. I tend to crouch most of the time though. I like low down perspectives.

I do often find that pictures look better from a lower level. I feel a bit of a nob crouching sometimes, especially in the middle of the street! Sometimes I even lie on the floor to get a shot right.

There is no one answer. If I am taking a photo of a person then I get mid height so as not to put them out of perspective.
When doing landscapes I like to get low even on the floor with my 10-20mm ever photo is different I move to make the photo have the right composition.

Hi

Most of my photos are of dogs and I kneel down a lot to get level with the dog. Takes it out of your knees a bit when you're photographing loads of dogs though.

Not really thought about this too much .... I like to vary the height and I tend to try different angles of the same shot .... getting more and more difficult to get up from the lying down on the floor shots though ....

It completely depends on the subject, environment, and the visual in my head of how I want the shot to look.

I have stood, crouched, laid down, and knelt.

I did my first laying down shot a couple of weeks ago (the GT40) and was laying there for 15 mins untill I got a clean shot whilst people were stepping over me and some even stood on my legs but I stood or laid my ground and got my shot, and yep it did feel strange but now for low down stuff it just feels natural

One tip is not to do it on public roads....trust me, I speak from personal experience

:) Lots of lovely replies in here. :) It seem that the ol' low down position is the preferred choice for many people. But indeed it's like what many of you say it really depends on the subject matter. :)
Actually, it does explain why my knees seem to be giving me grief a lot lately. :D

Usually on top of a ladder or something, dead of night, through a bedroom window.........

:naughty:

Either for me, If I need to couch then I'm not afraid to... as I beleive some people maybe. Its just what ever is needed.

As mentioned above.. Depends on what your shooting, I've always said/thought tall building(s) need to be taken from as low as possible.

From a perspective point of view.. ie if you want to keep it all nice n square. You're best off half way up the hight of the building.

For general shooting, of course it depends on the shot. I've given up buying new jeans though, the knees are gone within a month.

I would love to use the crouching position a lot more but "Alas" with..Knees..Back..Arthritis.(poor old sod):help:.if i get down i cant get up..:lol:

I recognise the problem. I try for a sitting or leaning position if possible.

usually stand or crouch sometimes stand on a chair - fun one is having cam above your head with a wide angle and a flashgun dragging the shutter over a crowd

have yet to try laying down in anger, will have to when I find a shot that requires it

I find a pair of kneepads is a useful photographic accessory, so more of a kneeler than a croucher.

From Ground level to arms length above head. Even climb on a wall... whatever it takes.

My wife actually bought me one of those garden kneelers and it really is a godsend!

As for position, again it depends on what I'm shooting. With polo they're higher than me so standing is fine but when photographing dogs playing the best is lying down. Then there's everything in between. ;)

I tend to use my tripod a lot of the time so am usually standing, crouching or lying down to look through the lens... and then stand up and press the remove shutter release. If I am shooting in the evening with the sun behind me, you'll often see my leggin it away so as not to get my shadow in shot. :D

I have a mailsack in the back of the car that I lie on so as not to get too grubby, but usually forget it so am often quite wet and dirty after a landscape session.
