Press "L" to dim the lights, the press it again to turn the lights off completely. One more time to turn the lights back on. On a PC that is, not sure about Apple.

Do you LR Classic users find that backing up the catalogue and presets and raw profiles etc is a hassle or have you found ways to automate or streamline all that?

How so the library only stores thumbnails, you still need the original image files that the library system points to.

I have no idea how these things work Terry but it was in My Pictures folder on my C drive that i don't ever use & assumed that any left over files would be deleted when i un-installed but 51 gig did seem a little excessive to me, I do still have the original images on my D drive.

The library only points to the original files if you delete them they are gone. Even if you move a file lightroom loses track of them.

Yes, but better still, I have two monitors and LR is designed to work with two so you can have the second monitor only display the image. You can also work this way with PS as well which allows me to have all of the palettes open on the second screen. It is also F for full screen in LR.

LrC has an automatic backup where you get to set the intervals, and it backs up when you close the software.
 
Agree. I am just really checking out other options. Essentially, I like the fact that LR (cloudy) has no hassle with catalogues, and a lovely UI and all the editing tools I am likely to need right now

I would prefer to not be worried about busting my cloud limit even though that is some time off.. I'll have a play with LR Classic when back from hols.

I suspect I may stay with LR (cloudy) until I fill it up and see by then how it's evolved
 
What is wrong with the catalogue. It stores the edit details and a previews which can be accessed much faster than reading the full file from disk. Because it does not store the full image file, the catalogue is not very large compared to the stored image files. As The Ancient Mariner has explained, backing up to the catalogue is automated so no hassle.

I just need to look into it. It's just something you don't need to think about with cloudy. Think I might need to backup presets, and preferences too? Not saying any of this that hard
 
I selected Lightroom Classic as I've used it for years, and it's my main cataloguing software for all my images, however, from a processing perspective my flow depends on what system I am using.

Canon R1 and R3
RAWs and JPEGs go straight into Lightroom Classic.

Hasselblad X2D II
I process the RAW file in Hasselblad's Phocus software as nothing else can come close to it in how it renders the colours and their noise reduction is insanely good. I then export to a 16-bit TIFF and then it goes into Lightroom Classic.

OM1 MK II
When shooting JPEG (sports) they go straight into Lightroom, but if I shoot RAW then they are processed in DxO PureRAW as they render the images much better than Lightroom. Again these are then exported and go into Lightroom Classic.

Fuji GFX100RF
JPEG files would go straight into Lightroom, but RAW files are processed in FujiFilm X RAW Studio, then exported as a TIFF and into Lightroom Classic.

It might seem like a pain but I've used Lightroom Classic for at least 10 years and it's pure muscle memory and I have no intention or desire to move away from it, over the last few years I've taken advantage of the student discount and my youngest is going to Uni in September so I'm good for another 4 years to continue that :ROFLMAO:

I'd prefer to process the RAW files in the application that renders the image, deals with noise etc, in the most effective way so I don't have any issue using Phocus and the others, the exception being that I've never really used Canon's Digital Photo Professional software, tried it years ago and couldn't see much of a difference and I hardly use the Canon's now and it would be for sport so would always be JPEG.
 
Well, back from holiday and pretty pleased with the photos I have to work with. I installed LR Classic alongside LR Cloudy and have been playing all morning. It is clearly very powerful and you can configure just about any setting. But that configurability and power comes with more clicks and it is definitely less smooth an experience for me. So I have decided to stick with LR Cloudy, at least for a few years until my storage gets full. And will then re-evaluate.

Interesting how many still use Lightroom Classic. I've only used the online version for many years, made life so much easier, wireless transfer from camera to iPhone, quick edit, stored safely in the cloud, original back up copy stored on iPhone, can post to insta or send to someone by airdrop straight away. Not saying I don't use a Mac for larger jobs when processing a few hundred images at once but I can't imagine being without the mobile version these days, haven't opened Classic for about 5 years.

Classic also allows you to save custom presets, which can be handy. Often due to lighting differences etc, I'll just create a baseline preset to save all the initial clicks, which then just leaves a little fine tuning for each image. I think the cloud one also supports presets. I'm tempted to try the cloud one again.
