Power Cut Fried My RAM!

Had a power cut/surge the other night. Obviously the computer went off and when i booted it back up again i got the dreaded blue screen of death with the stop code 0x00000050!!

After a couple of hours of googling on my phone and trying to recover windows I had to bite the bullet and start dismantling

I was praying it wasnt my HD's that had been toasted and thankfully they were still recognised by the BIOS, but i still couldnt boot from them or the CD drive so no hope of reinstalling Windows in a fresh partition.

I was about to give up and break the bad news to the mrs wen I remembered it could be the RAM so pulled out one of the 2GB sticks of Crucial Ballistix. Booted up and hey presto all faults gone!

Has this ever happened to anyone else and is the RAM fit for the bin or is there a way of recovering it?

give the process for clearing the CMOS on your board (usually involves a jumper switch) and retry the memory.

also give memtest a whirl to find faulty memory. it could potentially also be your motherboard that is causing the issue.

if faulty its dead.

Thanks Neil i'll try all that. Hopefully its not the m borad, just because i cant be faffed with re building everything and reinstalling windows and all my programmes

what version of windows are you running? to be honest the last 2 motherboard swaps i did under 7 64bit i didnt reinstall, i just uninstalled the motherboard software before hand. mind you that may be an issue if you cant boot lol

anyway give the CMOS reset and memtest a go and see what happens

Im running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

Ive tried not reinstaling a couple of times when ive changed m boards but it never seems to work for me :bonk:

Ill give the memtest a try to make sure the stick ive left in is OK then chuck the other in
