I'm finding myself relying more and more on presets in Lightroom and on my iPad to process images and get the results I'm looking for. It's almost as if I know what I like when I see it by trying presets, but don't set out with a desired result when I first open the picture!!

Any advise for getting away from that? Or do most people, even the pro's, rely on preset's with adjustment afterwards?

Get a book. This one is most people's favourite, by Scott Kelby. £23 Amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Adobe-Photo...=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1323175986&sr=1-1

It's very easy to get great results using Lightroom with zero knowledge, but to take it further you really need to understand what's going on beneath those sliders. And Lightroom is so much more than just a post processing programme.

Thanks for that, I'll take a look.

Kindle edition is quite a bit cheaper BTW. Illustrated books are often not so good on a Kindle as it's black and white, but it'd be nice on the iPad Kindle app :)
