Printer for photo prints - recommendations please?

No
As above, I did a search and obviously the usual comments come up about printing at Jessops etc. due to cost but I need one for my wife who prints a lot of smaller size snaps for her work (2in sq etc.) Trouble is we have a couple of Canons currently, a MP150 and MP110 but the inks are a killer e.g £30 for both cartridges so almost cheaper to buy a new printer!

What I am looking for is something that is a good 'general' printer, I don't mind spending a few quid (up to £200) on one but hopefully the inks will not be as stupidly expensive and needs to be able to cope with good quality text 'black' printing as well as producing nice quality photo level images too.

Really would like some recommendations though

Thanks in advance

I've a Canon ip4500 and very pleased with the results, yes inks are silly priced, but all genuine inks for the different manufactorers are "around" the same price per ml. Some of the Epson printers get good reviews aswell - I'm sure there will be some recomendations for these to follow.

Cheers, do you use the genuine inks? I ask as when I tried non-genuine ones with my MP150 they were awful, the printer wouldn't show status info etc.

You've hit on the problem with photo printers, the cost of the printer (in most cases) is relatively inexpensive, but the costs come when you have to buy new inks etc, limited life of inks and replacement costs are expensive making overall cost of a print more expensive.

Have you looked at the mini printers like the HP A826 or other dedicated portable photo printers. Does you wife use the PictBridge port or printing direct from memory cards as the IP4600 doesn't offer that facility, but its still rated as one of the best budget prints on the market.

Yes, have only used genuine in this printer, tried compatable a few years ago in an older Epson - disappointed with the results, lucky for me, the shop I dealt with was happy to exchange the comp for genuine and I just payed the difference, so thankfully apart from time, wasn't a waste of money.

Since than, have only used genuine ones

SHe only uses windows viewer to pull a number of shots into one page to then cut out and paste into individual 'books' so a little portable one probably wouldn't do the job TBH as she also has to print full A4 text documents etc.
