Can anyone help me here?

My printer ( HP Pixma IP5000) has suddenly started to not print from WORD, PUBLISHER, notepad, wordpad etc. But it does print webpages and a nozzle check etc. which leads me to believe there is nothing wrong with the mechanics of the printer.

With these other applications it shows a correct print preview then prints blank pages.
 
Sounds daft, but I take it the black cartridge isn't empty :lol: Have you tried reinstalling the drivers? Or reinstalling Office?
 
I have done a nozzle check and all colours are working, black text appears on the web pages that print out. But it happens on wordpad and notepad in Windows too, so its not just an Office thing. Just started happening on its own today for no reason.

Right. I think what you need to do Janice is get one of these. That should at least make sure that the printer is consistent. In all honestly I'm not sure what to say. You could try restoring to your last restore point and see what that does?
 
Try reinstalling the printer driver. It may be corrupted for some reason. I'd suggest downloading the latest driver from the HP web site and see if that helps.
 
Thanks. It seems I am using the latest driver. How the devil can it print from the internet but not microsoft office and wordpad etc. I wouldve tried reinstalling MS Office, but doubt that can be the prob if other apps wont print either. Sends through to the preview fine. :shrug:
 
Different routines within the drivers may well be in use. Last time I had to write a Windows print routine you had to open a blank space then send each object (such as a shape or text) to the space then once you finished you closed it and sent it to the print routine. There were other routines which took an existing space (such as an already rendered web page) and just sent this to the print engine. Lastly there are built in test routines for the nozzles. It may be then your driver is corrupt and some of the functions are damaged.

I would suggest booting up in safe mode and removing all trace of the printer drivers. Is there an uninstall program? If not then go to printers and remove from there then check for remnants in program files. reboot and re-install the drivers.

It is clearly a software issue rather than a hardware issue !

Alternatively a Windows routine may be faulty, one which microsoft use to print from Office and Wordpad.
