Printer problems

Though it would be worth asking here as there seems to be a wealth of knowledge.

I have a Canon IP4500 which is currently driving me to distractions, no matter how I try to print, and whether or not I use the top or bottom paper feed trays, I am unable to get the print to feed the paper correctly. From the top it seems to pull paper through at an angle even though it is in the printer straight. I try to use the bottom tray and things only get worse, it starts to feed paper through, and then makes a very load mechanical screeching noise stops printing and the computer displays a message saying that the mechanism has jammed and that I should switch the printer off and leave it for a bit.

I am using standard printer paper, and have not had problems using the same paper in the past, so I am confident that this is not what is causing the problem.

Is this a problem anybody else has had? If so what was the solution, aside from buying a new printer.

Thanks in advance

Adam

If it is not feeding the paper straight might be worth checking ghat the paper guides are tight to the sides of the paper in the tray.

My initial thought would be that a piece of paper is jammed somewhere within the paper track. This is causing the paper not to be driven evenly as there is no grip from the rollers on part of the sheet of paper. Hence the bad tracking. Then the whole thing jams, hence the screeching.

Have a look inside and see if you can see the culprit.

The paper guides are tight against the paper so I don't think that is the cause. I have had a look in the printer and cannot see any pieces of paper jammed in it, although it would certainly explain why the paper was not feeding correctly.

Thanks for you help.
