I have an EpsonR265 with a continous ink system fitted.
It used to work fine but now gives very dark prints.
I have purchased and used a monitor calibrator in the hope that would solve it but its no better. All the prints look dull and lifeless.
I'm using Kodak Premium photo paper and all the heads on the printer function correctly and have been cleaned again and again.
Does any one know how to calibrate or adjust the inks on a printer?

Best regards Glyn

What ICC profile are you using? This needs to be set up for your ink AND paper combination. If you are using non standard inks and papers the standard settings will be out.

Something like a colormunki is needed to calibrate your printer, or there are companies that offer the service.

Hi Craiky
Sorry i dont know where to look for the ICC Profile. Ive always used the printer in its out of the box condition, But only recently has this problem occured. If you could give me a little guidance where to look i'd appretiate it.
Regards Glyn

Hi Glyn, I think we all suffer printer problems from time to time, I'm having similar problems with my Epson R300, used to work fine, now getting dark prints using Lightroom, I use a CIS (same one for years, so can't be that), I had changed my paper to Tesco's Super Glossy & HP's Advanced & Hp's Premium Plus (only tried these because they were going cheap), all seemed to produce darker prints. Went back to Epson Premium Glossy & 7 day shop glossy & colours were brighter & prints better. For some strange reason prints of photoshop are better than Lightroom, using same printer/paper/inc combination
I've got a calibrated monitor spyder, thinking of trying printer caliibration but the spyder 3 print is approx £250 :gag:
Doubt any of this helps you, but your not on you're own in the war against printers
:)

Ilford have profiles for their papers that you can download, go to www.ilford.com /support /printer profiles. Obviously you are using Kodak paper but you can try the closest matching profile and see if it makes a difference for you. Ilford papers are excellent btw.

The standard settings will be for Epson ink and paper, the best start would be speaking to the CIS supplier.

It looks as though you are using the "Printer Manages Colour " option. If so then it's the Epson paper set up that the machine is using.

If you look under the advanced settings in the printer dialogue box you can change some things around. You should see a density control, Reducing this should make your prints lighter. It may take a coup;e of tries to get it right. Simply make some very small prints to check it out.

If you change paper you'll need to possible change these settings. You should be able to save these as a preset within the dialogue box. Sorry cant be of more help as I'm currently on a Mac and the dialogue box is different and the PC isn't hooked up at the moment
