What's your stance on doing the full wedding photography package for family or friends if wedding photography is your full-time job?

Easy... they DO NOT pick a Saturday or Sunday or they pay in full

Midweek - I'll do it for free :) so long as I get full credit, they pay for the PP and processing of their album at normal rates and they buy me drinks all day without expecting the images to be in focus after 3pm

More seriously though - my brother-in-law is getting married soon for the 2nd time. He knows to not ask me to shoot it on a weekend, so has chosen to get married abroad with me doing a midweek shoot sometime later - all parties are happy with this and no loss of income ensues :)

lol, you were too quick before I could get the poll up!

Maybe I shouldn't have made it public....

Friends - thay may get mates rates depending on how good a mate they are, but its likely to be 10-20%.

I won't shoot for close family, I'd like to enjoy the day

I think it really depends on how close a family and friends your talking about, close family and friends I'd do free, the not so close ones might get a discount, depending on how close they were.

if i gave em a 20% discount, i'd make end up making a loss :p

Can understand your reasoning, but surely your going to be at the wedding no matter if your taking the images or not? :)

At a family event where I am an invited guest then that is what I want to be. Not the photographer - a guest. I'm fortunate in that there will be no family weddings in my future - but if there were I wouldn't step near the photography gig!

I am a guest at a Wedding next month, a guest that is taking all the photographs that is ! Anyway the deal was that if I had another enquiry for that day then I would have to take the booking.
This couple are friends but they are also massive fans of my work which is nice, we have come to a deal that we are both happy with and in reality I think that is all that matters.

Fact is they have not got much cash, they have not asked me for a deal, I have done a deal - I see it as the season closer for me, it will be a fantastic Wedding in an amazing part of the world and I will get some really refreshing images. I will also have the chance to play, in a manner I would not be able to at a client Wedding.

+ I am being encouraged to drink beer ;)

Don't be daft !!! Take a day off on a £1000 income day :shake: Then add in all the costs of going to the Wedding too :cuckoo:

I don't mind going to Weddings as a guest but I'm not paying over £1,500 to do so - family or not

I'm from Yorkshire tha noz :D

fair enough :)

Wouldn't dream of charging my immediate family if they wanted me to do it even if it meant turning down a paying client. Very close friends wouldn't be charged either but they'd be the type to put a small cheque in the post to say thank you no matter how much I insisted otherwise.

Anyone else, full price!

Just did one for a very close friend of mine in London last weekend. She'll get all the edited images on dvd and if she wants an album I'll happily design & put the album together for the material costs. If she sends a cheque, it's going straight back to her!

If it is your livelihood then you can't expect to miss out on your wages to do someone a favour so the "free if during midweek" seems like a reasonable stance with them paying for costs.
