Trying to download images from my recently acquired 1D MkIII. Canon software all installed. I plug the camera into the USB cable and get message "Camera incompatable with software"? Help !

Recently found this forum and I need some help please. Trying to downlaod images from my recently acquired 1D MkIII and I get a message telling me the camera is incompatible with software. All Canon software is installed. Any ideas welcome.

Was the camera new or secondhand. It may be you have an earlier version of the software. You can download the latest version from the Canon web site, that may help.

However to be honest loading images via the camera will take a while, you're better off buying a card reader, much quicker and safer, as it doesn't require the camera to be powered up. You don't want the battery dying on you half way through a download. On the plus side the batteries in the 1D/1Ds seem to last for ever!!

Just checked, The software for my 1Ds lll is V16. I'm sure the 1D will be similar

Its a used one but less than 1 year old. Software is V17.1. I tried card reader first but takes forever (only 40 images on the card) so decided to revert to camera download which I have always found fine with my 30D

you should be able to download 4GB of images in about 4 mins. I would suspect you are using the PC's inbuilt card reader?

I remember the days of downloading a 4gb card to my laptop via the built in pcmica slot, 45 mins was not uncommon, against sub 5 mins for the USB2 port.

Do you need to use DPP, I've yet to even open the sleeve the cd came in :D, I import to lightroom and then edit in cs4 where needed.

I've always used a card reader, and I've never pugged mine in either.

Hi welcome:) I'll ask a mod to move this to a better spot for you.

Hi Mark  Welcome to the forums.

As PsiFox suggested, you'll be more likely to get some help with this problem in Talk Equipment, so I've moved this thread into here for you :)

I had on and off problems with mine when attached to my mac, mostly the camera wasn't recognised. So I use a card reader to download images, problem solved.

Duplicate threads merged :)
