Problem downloading pics

Hi all, (new to this forum) can anyone help me?...I first had this problem with my first camera after I upgraded my PC, but it has occurred with three other cameras also, so I am pretty sure it is a PC fault rather than a camera fault.
When I have downloaded my pics from my camera, some of them are faulty insomuch that they look like they have been cut horizontally, and slightly misaligned and the bottom or top half has had the colour or lightness changed.

It is always horizontal, and it varies in width.

Anyone else had this problem?
I have had the problem with a Canon EOS400D, IXUS 500, Panasonic FZ45, and lastly an Olympus TG-310 (Tough)..the last two are brand new.

It is doing my head in :bang: and I'm sure it's a PC or USB transfer problem but if anyone knows please let me know
 
I'm not sure I'm going to be much help but something that may give the more computer savvy members more idea what's going on:

How are you trying to put the pics on your PC - is it a card reader or by actually connecting the camera?
 
1. Try different memory cards

2. Try different computers

3. Try different viewing software

4. Try different transfer method (card reader or cable).

Process of elimination I guess.

I think the first I'd try is another computer.
