Problem with my D40

Wet cleaned it today - smudges are gone but have used 5 swabs and there are a few dust particles that just will not shift.

Time to give in and send it somewhere?

Read this, all of it :D LINK First time I wet cleaned a sensor it took about 5 swabs to get it perfect.

Thanks for link but had looked at that already - still not getting anywhere with it.

Its still looking pretty bad,

Phoned Nikon so will cost £30 for a clean.

I was debating selling it along with my 18-55 lens and 55-200 VR lens, Remote and 4GB SDHC card.

Is it likely to sell or would I be best just trying to get it fixed. Just running out of patience with it.

I wouldn't sell something 'cos its dirty !

get it cleaned and start enjoying it again :)

Have you tired shooting on a lower f stop? That normally works well enough for me.
but the dirty is still there just not really noticable.

To be brutally honest it is not broken, it has a couple of dust spots on the anti alias filter over the sensor, if you are not confident that you can clean it yourself £30 for a clean is the way to go.

It is a process that requires patience and some manual dexterity, the underlying problem is concern that you will damage it doing it yourself. This concern is fuelled by some of the hype on the internet, but it is something that I have done a couple of times without issue.

As I said though the first clean of the sensor does take a few swabs to get it spotless, subsequent cleans need fewer passes.

It may be an idea to leave it a few days until you are in a more relaxed frame of mind then have one more try when you are less frustrated about the problem

It's probably no consolation but as much as I loved my D40x my one big gripe with it was that dust constantly got into it. So consider buying yourself an artic butterfly which though not cheap is a lot cheaper than a new camera! Assuming that you can get the worst of it off, you can also get rid of any stuck bits by using the spot removal tool in Lightroom which can be set to copy and paste onto every image. Not perfect I know but a last resort.
