Hey guys, first post here, hope it goes well!

I have recently joined the DSLR club, picking up a pre-owned Canon 30D from Ebay to start taking photography a little more seriously.

I am a Product Design student at University in Dundee, Scotland and have given myself a project that brings together photography, the printing of photos and the collecting of photos, as this is something that has always held my interest.

As a quick show of hands, if you get the time, can you tell me if you print out the photos that you take on a regular basis and why?

Thanks very much!

I print out the ones that i believe i have learned something on.

ones that are building up my skill set, i do it because it reminds me that i can do it so is a confidence booster and helps me push myself.

plus my GF likes them:lol:

I have a quality printer, an R2400, which I use to print photos when I want them a particular size to go in maybe a frame. I tend to get prints done of some of my pictures especially those I want at a regular size and plan on doing a picture wall this year so will get more done. Most of my images remain stored electronically though.

Would your print them out a lot more (in a Polaroid fashion) if it was made easier/cheaper?

The whole process of hooking your big clunky DSLR up to USB 2.0 and slowly putting them on to your personal computer and then having to pay a lot of money to get mediocre prints definitely gives me some ideas for products!

No I actually had a CP330 printer and it was used for those images that you need there and then but it is easier to use an online printer or Tesco for a batch and much cheaper. It costs £7.50 for 150 prints at Tesco done the next day! Aldi is even cheaper and on-line at 4p a print and still VERY cheap for 10x8" etc.

Taking out the memory card and sticking it into the memory card reader on the side of my monitor and letting light room import them all is hardly a chore either. It then takes maybe 10-20 seconds per image to label them so that I can find them ie each person on the image, location etc

I have FW800 on the Macbook pro or mac pro but even USB2 is not really a major problem.

I keep all mine on my hard drive, the ones i need for college i print at home for using in my journal.
I use an outside firm to print any I want for clients (Portraits) and they cost from 15p a print. They are of stunning quality for a reasonable charge, far from mediocre.

If printing was 20p per 100 I still wouldn't print off any images I didn't intend to sell on as a print. It seems pointless. I have a suitcase in the loft full of photos that I never look at because unlike my camera, that IS big & clunky.

By the time i've bust my back getting them out then manually searched through years of pics, to not find the one I wanted my computer is sitting there showing me 3000 pics and any one of those can be found in about 10 seconds.

A short answer to your original question would be "no" :D
