They dont pay No, But im not wanting money, Photography for me is a hobby and not my buisness.

Then you should keep it as a hobby and not encourage these people who simply prey on the egos of amateurs like yourself. They don't get anything else for free so why should they get free pictures?

Im chuffed that someone has spotted my image and wated to use it, Simple as really, its not as if there making Thousands Of ££££ from my image there simply displaying it as an attraction for Manchester, and they dont take credit for it either.

So really not sure What your problem Is ??

There are lots of threads on here which should enlighten you. Waste of time repeating it all again as it seems we'll never stop people allowing themselves to be taken as mugs and giving good saleable images away to these vultures for free.

If you sit and read most of his posts now, albeit they may come across as arsey they can have a point.

The point is that the business of photography is falling appart because now someone with a 350D can come out with some nice shots and companies will take them for free and not pay for professionals rates anymore.

basically people giving away ppics for free is having a detremental effect on peoples income whoen their job is photography.

You really wouldnt have wanted to read the music magazine i read today then

M8 its called, pics provided by tillate and soornights (both sites where the photographer works for free)

Just realised why youve got your neck out now, seen your link to your images and the prices, no wonder you dont like Company's " Now how did you put it "

"Who simply prey on the egos of amateurs like yourself "

I wouldnt Exactly say Falling apart now

Giving away free photos isnt exactly helping the industry though is it? Thats his point.

Much like if plumbers started working for free, who would you use? the free one or the one whos not free? When peoples livelyhoods/houses etc.. are dependant upon photography which they have been for many years, you should understand why they get quite fed up when they have to drop their rates because people who have (another paid job) and are just hobbyests are giving good work away for free because their paid job supports their gear habbit etc...

I can empathise with both sides tbh.

But surley thats competition for you, i know were talking free here but the percentage of free images agaisnt companys / organisation who pay must be very very small, This happens in every industry even the one im in, and the image i gave away wasnt exactly the best acoording to some members on here lol.

I dont offer images for free, i got offered and got reconition for it on there site so im chuffed, i wont be making a habbit of it, and would like money for images but personel didnt think they were good enough to charge.

Also if i di charge wouldnt that just be adding to the competion and making the industy even worse.

All i can say is a no win situation ?

Business is economics, alot of people seem to have noticed that its less about the quality in some cases and more about the £££.

So free wins hands down. The fact theres ALOT of people giving work away free is causing quite a few issues, which is why people get so upset about it.

How is it competition when you have a job, which pays you so you can care for your family etc and so can afford to give work away free, they cant afford to do that as their life depends on photography.

Think about the bigger picture and you will understand why some people get irate about it.

You have multiple organisations, multiple people offering photos for free, it doesnt take many people to water down the earning potential of say a photographer for rock magazines for example.

At least by charging you are showing that they cant get work for free, and so HAVE to pay photographers for work, offering it free immediately shoots alot of people in the foot.

There will allways be situations when they will need the best pics possible, but ive noticed it quite alot that economics seem to take president over img quality.

Well I blame it on the TP professionals! If they hadn't given their free advice to amatuers like ourselves then we would never have been good enough to have our pictures published.

Anyway well done, Ive gave images free just the Credits great, at least your getting out there and noticed can we see the image, my latest was the Northwest Air Ambulance free image but it is a good cause, Thread Clicky Linky

ive been schmap'ed also.

for people starting out, image for credit is, in some cases the only way to get your name out there, but its a very short term thing, once you start getting noticed you will start charging.

This is what i call "A marmite situation" there isnt a definate right or wrong answer, it depends on your situation: pro, ameteur, livelyhood, hobbie etc

some of us ameteurs may be ok with it now but if were lucky enough to turn pro, we too may change stance and hate these young whipper-snappers undercutting us by doing things for free.

I turned Schmap down when they asked me for one of my pics for free. I would never have thought about the effects of giving away prints until joining this forum or the effects of doing so on the bigger picture - Excuse the pun.

I do struggle to see how giving them a free pic would 'get my name out there' as I am sure that no one reads, cares or bothers about the person who has credit for the photo. In my opinion only, I can not see giving away pics to schmap for example as a way of starting to break into the industry.

As for Daves charitable cause - I think that's a nice thing to do.
