puddleduck how has the firmware upset your camera?

i followed nikons download update now my camera downloads 2 of every picture from my camera.

so they said update my firmware it still does it. i bought sandisc as they said to but my kingston had worked well all the time.still does it 2 pics of esach.

the helpline also said dont delete pics from the card but format everytime instead as the cards will last longer.
i did that but it dosent delete the pictures when i format

Silly question. Are you shooting in RAW and jpeg. If you are you will get two of everything? One RAW and one jpeg

Hi ditchdigger

Probably being stupid, but are you sure you haven't set / changed the settings to shoot raw and JPEG ?

Sorry Rocket, just beat me to it.

Are you formatting on the PC or on the camera?

Format on the PC -- the camera will not (normally) remove anything it didn't put on the card.

+1 on the Raw + JPEG question.

My AF is no longer working properly, in AF-C mode with my 300mm f/4 AF-S.

'Twas fine on Thursday. Decided to update the firmware Friday (god knows why), and now the D700 most of the time just won't AF. I need to grab the focus ring and help it along, and it usually get it into focus but if its too OOF in the viewfinder, AF makes no attempt.

I'm 99.9% sure this is a direct cause of the firmware update as the camera was flawless before, but AF took a very noticeble hit immediate after. It could not track planes (AF didn't even attempt to acquire, and just hunted) and most the time AF no longer seems to do anything!

i get 2 identical jpegs with the same no side by side its a definet fault if i disconnect and reconect it goes down to 1 again.
they said firmware update would make it compatible with the nikon transfer update.
i asked puddleduck as there maybe a fault being given to us by nikons firmware and updates?

i was deleteing then formating in the camera

nikon said only format in the camera and it will delete and card will last longer.
formating the card with the camera dosent delet.

Which firmware are you using this sound like a problem with the earlier firmware. see here: http://support.nikontech.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16271/kw/d700/p/19/r_id/116678

When Custom Setting a4 Focus tracking with lock-on was set to Off in Continuous-servo AF, the lens drive moved gradually without achieving focus. This issue has been resolved.

Where?

If you have a card in an odd state you should format it on a PC.

nikon tech told me on the dog,how do you format in the computer and its not practible when in the field.

Are you using Nikon Transfer?

I've used that a few times and on occasion I've ended up with two files, with the extra file with -2 appended to the filename

I don't know what causes it or how to fix it, but its not a firmware issue.

interesting thats whats happening to me so it must be the download software or the way the camera talks to it then

ive checked all the download options all settings are good

You'd obviously need a CF (or for other cameras an SD) adapter -- they now normally come as USB devices, somtimes included with cards. Then click on the Start or Windows logo, select Computer and then look for the card (drive) -- right click on it and you'll see format as an option.

A PC running Windows will remove everything and recreate the file system from scratch.
