Am I right in thinking "pull focus" is a term used for Cinematography?

I've just recieved an email about a job, which in the clients words, needs all to be pull focus shots. Rather than appear a complete idiot, do you think she means shallow/creative use of DOF?

Could they mean (and I don't know the name for it) that technicue where you zoom in/out during an exposure to creat a zoom burst? Just guessing:shrug:

Yes, in moving images, its focusing on near to distant or vice versa without moving the camera. The OOF is caused by DOF, although thats slightly the wrong term for videoheads.

I would assume wide aperture use for subject isolation is what they mean.

Pull focus is for video/film cameras where a distant object is in focus then adjusted to draw the eye onto a closer object - and vice versa.
TV dramas use it a lot to add suspense.
