Question about getting published in rags

[D.S.]

I often see on here 'Yeah I got published' in so and so local newspaper...

How does this come about? Do you mail them off your own back with as selection of images, or do the papers 'find' them on flickr or the likes?

In the time writing this post I just had a reply from my local Caterham paper, saying they liked my Carnival pics and might be interested in using one of them

So did you mail them your photos?

[D.S.]

I did indeed, but after I sent them I started wondering what other people did. As I was typing question out I got the reply lol.

Good for you. Do they pay or do you just get the glory of having your name in print?

[D.S.]

Nah just for the glory lol, got a log way to go before i'd expect payment, but maybe one day
