Bit of a noob question here and sorry if its in the wrong section.

When i transfer pictures from my camera to a folder on my hard drive, is there anyway I can retrieve the information about the photograph, such as ISO, f#, shutter speed, focal length, etc, etc, or once the phot is off the camera is this information lost?

Reviewing my pictures I would like to be able to compare two similar pics and see what or were the differences lie.

Many thanks.

Just about any image viewer can display EXIF data.

You can also see them if you use Windows and you view properties of the image file (i. e. right click the file icon and select Properties). One of the tabs contains document information, that's the one you want to view.

If your viewer can't do it and you're not comfortable with the other method, try this app:

You could also get a better image viewer.

Do'h, cheers guys never thought to look across when looking in proprties.:bonk:

As a little side question then, what do most people recomend as a viewer? Not yet into photoshopping too deep so just use Ifranview.

Cheers

IrfanView is just fine for non-commercial home use. Look into the short list link in my signature to see a few more.

Theres lots of choice, Picassa (free) is a popular one, Fastsone is another freebee, as a photoshop user I tend to use bridge for browsing raw files.
