chatting with a Nikon user, he said I should turn off the sharpening in 'the camera',I have a Canon 5D, I have looked ,but cant find sharpening in any menu's, does the 5D have on board sharpening, and if so how do I turn it on or off
thanks:)

If you go to the 'Picture Style' option in the menus, and select the current option to open the list of styles, you can then press the 'Jump' button to enter the variables for each of the preset modes.

Alternatively, I would presume you can also set your own 'style' by changing the parameters in one of the user defined options.

If you shoot RAW you shouldn't need to worry about it

thanks simmotino, so shooting Raw(which I do ), bypasses these settings then Andy?

had a look at the settings, and answered my own question, even if you shoot RAW, the settings apply, thanks for the info:)

On Nikons the settings apply to the image you see on the back lcd (which is a jpeg). They do not apply to the exported RAW file.

:agree: The in camera settings only affect the embedded jpg, which is what you see on the back of ther camera, not the RAW file which you process on your computer, which is why it's called RAW as it's just the raw image data.

Really? I think you'll find that is NOT correct.

The picture style setting is recorded as a parameter in the RAW file. Canon's DPP will open the RAW and apply the picture style settings used for the shot but it can be subsequently changed to another style or setting. The basic data is always the same.
