Quick rant - Secretive people

I hate unnecessarily secretive people!!! :bang:

Recently we've had one of the most secretive people at the camera club - a person who 'wows' you with their images, and when you say...

"Love it, the PP is great - do you mind me asking what you did?" the short answer is

"NO!!!"

Soz - but unless you're selling Actions or training sessions on PP work - WTF is the point of being so secretive???

Many on here will just about tell you everything about anything you ask - we are NOT competitors trying to out-do the other in sales etc. we are fellow photographers trying to improve our photography and image creation

If someone has a great processing technique you like, then ASKING them shouldn't be a crime IMHO - IF you're not trying to sell those techniques, if you are intent on selling them then that's fine obviously - but just remember that just one TP member could buy your DVD (pass it to a mate) and let anyone know of their new Action they've invented and you'd have no case to argue - so why be secretive???

We are NOT going to shoot that same landscape in that same light and process it the same are we; nor are we going to do that with a person shot either - get over it people

I get loads of pms for just about everything I do - and I never say NOT TELLING YOU - am I odd then? I had so many pms about the new/different flooring I use Dellipher posted a thread explaining where & how to buy it FFS

So can I just ask that if you think your images are so amazing in their PP that they are worth protecting by refusing to tell one & all how you did it - DON'T POST THEM

I think it's perfectly ok for photographers to keep secrets, after all this is what pays the mortgage for some people. At the same time though there are lots of other photographers that have no problem with sharing their techniques. Personally I don't think it's up to you whether or not they share.

I take it the OP is referring to people on this forum? If not, then I must have misunderstood.
 
I have never come across it but it would **** me off the same as it has you. Quiet easy to knock him down a peg, just don't vote for his images in club comps.

Ah OK. From what I can recall from your posts, they do seem helpful. I have found most posters to be helpful in general.

The person in question is a well known female photographer so I'd rather not mention her directly as a Google search would find her all too easily

It's just that I've seen this technique of asking others for help/advice all too often when those asking won't reveal when asked

If you wish to ask, then be prepared to share is my point :thumbs:

surely if the pp is breathtakingly new, it's up to the individual

otherwise google is your friend

blimey a few posts while I was typing the last. I had not thought about it being someone on the forum, nor had I thought about the possibility that the person at the cob being a pro making a living from what they do. If the pp is that unique and that is why people use that tog then I can understand the stance taken. I was only thinking that it was an amateur doing of for enjoyment.

See my last post - and no - she's not a Pro - nor was it especially unique, just an Infra-red variation

Its not a coincidene that after dave replying in my thread he makes one of his own. I tell people what program I use and I tell people when I use HDrR. If people ask for business advice I give it to them. IM not bothered about dave not telling me about his mail shot but dont come at me about this. And when I asked him it wasn't even common for people to ask me in detail about my processsing.

In response to DD I also don't see what the big secrecy is all about either

I bet given that same equipment the same software etc, stood side by side
the two images wouldn't be identical anyway
or am I missing something ( apart from a couple of brain cells)
