RAM voltages & mobo alarm

Hi all,

I've got a Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI motherboard, currently with 3gb of ram in... Over the last few weeks/months I've been getting a two tone alarm when the draw from the RAM goes over a set amount..

I've "fixed" the alarm by increasing the upper limit on it... The original values were:

Lo: 1.66v
Hi: 2.03v

I've changed it to

Lo: 1.66v
Hi: 2.15v

The DDR2 was drawing 2.08v which kept setting off the two tone alarm.

My question is, a: Will this do any damage and b: Why is the ram using more volts than the mobo was origianlly set to use?

I turned it off because it was absolutely doing my head in, but I don't want to leave it like that without checking its not going to cause a problem longer term, and whether it's OK to keep using it :)

I'm not with the PC now, but the RAM currently installed is 3x1gb sticks of OCZ DDR2 8600 (from memory), and one spare slot - which I do have a stick of ram for, which I removed as the PC wouldn't boot up with it in... Would this possibly be related to the voltage issues?

Hopefully I haven't missed anything else!

Yea, should be fine, my RAM is running at about that, DDR2 is ok between about 1.8-2.3V (with the faster stuff at the higher end). I wouldn't worry :) However if the voltage in the BIOS has an "Auto" setting, might be worth putting it on that, I wouldn't have thought it should need more than about 2V, as my current RAM is rated at the same speed & timings, but only needs 1.8V...

so long as it has heat speaders and does not go over the rated 2.2v do not worry.
