not sure if this is the correct place... but i have started using the custom wb setting on the camera. but when i try to set it using some photos then it wont let me use it to set the wb  god knows why its started doing it, but do any of the cameras other settings ie, iso/fstop/shutterspeed or flash affect it? like if i have flash on i cant use it to set the white balance or something silly like that .

sorry if i havent really explained myself properly but it baffled me last night.

Are you using the same exposure mode? i.e. - Aperture priority, shutter priority, manual. I don't know about the Canon 1000d but I know the cameras I've had would disable some controls depending on the exposure mode. Like if you had it in Programmed exposure mode or something some of the controls wouldn't be available.

yeah i only ever use 'av' mode very rarely use anything else tbh.

I thought it may have been to do with the exposure compensastion or the flash but its worked before with them  proper confusing me. think i will have to have another play with the camera later tonight when i get in from work.

Ill try and explain it a bit better...
basically i take a photo which which to start with is on auto wb (which i have always done when setting the white balance) i then select custom wb and then go into the menu and select the photo i have just taken which then sets the wb. normally fine and dandy but last night there were a secletion of photos that wouldnt let me set the white balance from them for some reason no major settings had been changed so i dont know what has caused it. but all of a sudden i took a photo and then tried again and it worked fine, so like a say its like a selection of 10 or so photos that just wouldnt allow me to set the white balance from them.
(hope that explanation helps a bit more)

the only other thing i can think of is a few of the files are corrupt.
