I am now starting to shoot most of my stuff in RAW, but am having trouble opening the files.

I have ps elements 7, and I have the RAW image data converter on my laptoo, but when I try to use it for my.images, it says the file is unsupported ir corrupt and wont open it.

What am I doing wrong/ not doing?

Thanks

Check for updates of pse7 may be the 1st port of call!

talking about my Nikon D5000 here but i expect it's similar for you

i had to install a Plug-in into Elements 7 so it would 'recognise' the files from my D5000

got this from the website

''Adobe® Photoshop® Camera Raw 5.4 Read Me

Installation

This new version of the Camera Raw plug-in replaces the original Camera Raw plug-in that was installed
with Photoshop CS4, Photoshop Elements 7.0 and Premiere Elements 7.0.

Photoshop Elements:

Windows®:..NOTE: You must follow all of the new instructions in order to successfully install the Camera Raw Plug-in
for Photoshop Elements.

1. Exit Photoshop Elements.

2. Open the download file and double-click CameraProfiles.exe and follow the on-screen instructions.

3. Double-click Local Disk (C:).

4. Navigate to location designated by your version of Photoshop Elements:
a. Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 6.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats
b. Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 7.0\Plug-Ins\File Formats

5. Move the existing Camera Raw.8bi plug-in to another location (for example, a new folder on your
desktop). Ensure you keep this version in case you need to revert back.

6. Copy the Camera Raw plug-in, Camera Raw.8bi, from the download into the same folder as Step 4.

7. Launch Photoshop Elements.''

You could use Canon's Digital Photo Prof (DPP) to 'develop' your RAW's. It's very good :)

I'm a bit late to this as it looks like the problem is now sorted but I just wanted to add...

If opening RAW's is ever a problem when buying new / old cameras it's worth thinking about converting the problem files to DNG as the software is free and it's easy to do.
