RAW

Again, make sure you are running the latest version of Camera Raw for CS4.

Version 5.7 was the last release for CS4

You can download it from here for Windows or here for Mac

:)

Can you open them with the DNG converter?

I recently had the same problem on a Macbook, after using it for about 5/6 months. I ended up doing the same thing re-installing, then updateing (took ages!!) then downloading the latest version of camera raw (for CS4). I asked the IT department at work and IT mate - they could not solve it.

Working fine again now!!

ok, so i reinstalled PS, updated it via help. I then updated DNG converter and Camera raw,I downloaded the one that actually stated my camera model which was version 4.1.1.
I've converted the files taken from my camera in the converter and they open in PS (woo!)
but....I just want to check that it is working correctly. The file opens up in a different window to PS where it gives options to change the contrast, expose, colour temp etc and at the bottom is a button to 'open image'. When I click on that it comes up with a box saying "The document 'IMG....' has an embedded colour profile that does not match the current RGB working space, What would you like to do? Use the embedded profile, convert documents colour to working space, discard the embedded profile."

Is this right? and which option should I choose??

I apologise if this is a really blonde question, but i'm hopeless when it comes to technical stuff and computers! To be honest i'm impressed i've managed this far!!

Your help its reeeeally appreciated!!

First off, in the RAW software press CTRL+K and set as below.

In CS4 press SHIFT+CTRL+K to open up the colour settings dialogue. Set as below.

Can I have my manual back soon please :)

Why did you install an older version of Camera RAW? The version that comes installed with CS5 (version 6.x) should be able to handle 450D RAW files straight-away. Installing an older version will not give you any benefits - in fact, it is likely that CS5 cannot even use ACR version 4.x.

As above, did you try opening them directly from within CS5 using File > Open instead of converting them to DNG first?

Did you set the colour space setting in the camera to Adobe RGB? Your "working space" in CS5 is probably set to sRGB, that's why you are getting that error - because they don't match. Or is it setting the colour space to Adobe RGB while you convert the CR2 using the DNG converter?

Cheers

She said CS5 in the opening post

Edit: Read the third post - she indeed has CS4.

But I think my comment is still valid. CS4 was released in October 2008 and the 450D was announced in January the same year so the version of ACR that came with CS4 (v5.1) definitely supported the 450D.
