Needing new batteries for the 1D and thought of fitting new rechargeable into the original casings, anyone split these and where is the best place to buy ni-mH batteries to put in it.?
 
This would be interesting, I have a 1D2 and 4 batteries, 1 of which doesn't hold charge at all. I could be tempted to split it and see what could be done.

Would it be possible to replace with Li-Ion battery pack or would this not be compatible?

If you are going to repair / replace batteries in a battery pack, you should replace like with like. Don't change from ni-mh to li-ion for example, and there is also your charger to consider as well in any upgrades.

Depending on price of new batteries, it may well be worth having a go if one of yours is no good
