Sunday morning, while having breakfast, the phone was ringing
all the time… well, too much for pleasure anyway. Friends and
neighbours were telling me that I was in the newspapers…

Sometime over the Summer, some local tabloid reporter saw me
with a masterclass group of 18 from Austria, Switzerland, and Ger-
many having a go at the wildlife of the marsh. She was surprised
that the local reservoir could attract people for the quality of its en-
vironment and the variety of birds and wanted to report on it.

At anytime of the year, the franco-canadian photographer Daniel Ouimet will capture appropriate photo subjects at the observation station in Gralla.

The Full Width Version — to large for the forum — may be seen here:

As I am not on the social scene (weddings etc) she did not know
me. Corporate
photography, industrial and product shoots make
sure one can be known in given sectors but are on the lower profile
side of society: I am a witness of events but never part of them, al-
ways hiding behind a camera… in a darker corner.

Congratulations! That camera and lens looks like a bloody tank, tis huge! :)
TY, Micheal!

This impression is possibly reinforced by the presence
of an other tripod and gear behind mine! :D

Well done Daniel, and no beret so must have been warm :)

Thanks Roger!

As Canadian, I never learned to fear lions and crocs
but mosquitoes and heat! :ROFLMAO::wacky:

Congratulations Daniel, recognition is good.
Thanks Peter!

In this case, the gratification, or recognition, come from my
approach rather than from my work as photographer.

The marsh is definitely an asset for Mother Nature. Our
appreciation — mine as well as that from other devoted
nature lovers — is giving us the arguments to express it
in words and in images that will make it an asset for the
community which, with the pride in it, will protect & enjoy it.

Nice one :) "capture appropriate photo subjects" made me chuckle, do you avoid mating season?

"capture appropriate photo subjects"
This is German… I think I made a goof trying to translate it;
in French and in English, others words and sentence cons-
traction are used to mean similar ideas.

Well done Daniel for that addition to photography of the natural world being recognised in the non specialist press :)

TY, Laurence,

hoping that it has no bad side effect in the future!

What a long lens you got for your pose :)

You sound like the little red riding hood talking to the wolf! :ROFLMAO::wacky:

I use the 200~400 ƒ4 and the 600 ƒ4 both with a D810 but
waiting for my D850!

Little red riding hood would not say that if she would see my 150-600 Tamron. What a weakling[*] lens you got there :)

[*]Weakling dictionary definition = If you describe a person or an animal as a weakling, you mean that they are physically weak.

Well done Daniel great for the natural environment and yourself to get recognition like that :)

Sehr gut und schön hier bis zu wochenende, glückwünsche

Congratulations on the recognition Daniel

For the environment, Pete, I hope more visitors,
protection for the future — for all ecosystems!

For myself, it is business as usual.
Except maybe…
Today a mother was at the marsh with two kids.
The older one, I think, recognized me and said so
to him mom that called someone right away…
Some giggles and sometime later, two old folks
showed up with the article and wanted me to sign it!
WOW, it's really big… said the grandma — talking

about the 600… of course! This was the 8th time
this week!

An exchange of email in response to the article:

Greetings Barbara,

some who knows me, spoke of your article and gave me a copy of the article.
Two mistakes got through…
1, I arrived in Europe in 1989 but not in Austria… that happened later
2, I never worked for NGM but explained I was more working in that direction than that of a bird guide’s.
To me, these bare no consequence and wish you all the best…

thank you!

Daniel Ouimet

Dear Daniel,
Thanks for your feedback. I'm utterly sorry, I must have got these two things wrong.

All the best,
Barbara

Congratulations on the recognition Daniel

Thanks but…
The marsh ecosystem got the recognition, Tilly, I was
just there to explain the variety of residents and appre-
ciate the quality of the environment itself!

Sorry my mistake. I bet it's a good place to shoot

Cheers James, one more for the planet!

Really good to see someone rewarded for their quiet, sensible and helpful approach in a world where that seems to be often taken as as a weakness. Well done, very deserved!

Really good to see someone rewarded…

Very kind of you, Phil, but as I said, the recognition
was for the natural interest of the marsh… I was
just there to confirm that interest.

Nice one Daniel!

Nice one Daniel!

The news paper wants to do some social animation at the marsh.
Their ideas are not yet precise as they're brainstorming the whole
thing. At this point, they thought of a photo contest, dissertations
for the higher levels… but that would involve the schools and it
may be complicated, etc.

We shall see!
