Yes
I think Puddleduck did a thread on best lens for the S5 pro but i couldnt find it. I have noticed that although I get nice sharp prints with my 10-20 sigma and my Nikon 50 1.8, the nikon 18 - 105 kit lens doesnt work well.

Does anyone know if the nikon 16-85 is any better, and also does anyone have a link to the original thread?

just what I wanted to know, looks like the 16-85 is on the shopping list!

Following Mark's pos the full thread is here.

Best lens £ to £ IMO is the Sigma 17-70, personally I would avoid the Tamron 17-50 I could never get on with it. The Nikon 17-55 is the best but also the most expensive. Alternative is decent primes, worth trying the Nikon 24mm, 35mm f/2 and 50mm 1.8, seen some stunning results with Zeiss primes as well but they are mf.

The 16-85 is very good and the IS is very useful as the lens is not that fast. A used 16-85 will cost you around £350, 17-70 £175 and a 17-55 between £550 and £650.

I always found my Nikon 18-200mm has performed well and most of the primes if not all of the TBH.
Sometimes we can just purchase a rogue lens.
The most constant well performing lens I have ever purchase a number of times now is the Nikon AF 50mm f1.8 I've owned four versions the org with a very narrow focus ring the AFn version and a couple of AFD versions.
And they all out performed my AFD 50mm f1.4 especially wide open.
Some thing a little wider ?
Try the the Tokina ATX 10-17mm ff fisheye zoom it puts in a steller performance.
