I'm off for a well needed break to Majorca next week and was wondering if anyone can recommend any places to visit with my camera?!

It's a family holiday but I've got a whole afternoon and/or evening put aside for some togging.....I won't have time to tour the island looking for things, so I thought a shortlist of places to visit will save me some time!

No real restriction on subject, although I am restricted to one lens, a 17-55mm, so wildlife could be a problem! Also, I'll have a car, so can go pretty much anywhere.....all suggestions are gratefully received!!

Which part of the island are you based. I've just come back from my seventh trip to th island.

About half way between Palma and Palmanova but I have a car booked for the week so can travel about no problem at all!!

I've been looking around on the net for some fiestas but there's non happening next week.....:'(

As you only have one half day to explore I needed to know which part as it's a larger island than some people expect.

Firstly and most importantly, you'll be near Portal Nous which is most important as it is the location of an English butcher where you can buy all your BBQ provisions ;)

Right. Photo ops. I like visiting the smaller, older, towns and villages and just wandering taking street scenes and architecture. You can do this in parts of Palma but parking is a mare. My favourite for this is Llucmajor but its really on the wrong side of Palma for you. Maybe look for a route taking you through Calvia, Puigpunyent and on to Soller - maybe visiting Port de Valldemossa if you have the time. Return down the Ma11 but go over the top and not through the tunnel, maybe calling in at Bunyola on the way back.

That would be my route for old town architecture and landscapes. But if the forecast suggests a good sunset then consider the coast road down the Ma10 along Banyalbufar. If you're into marinas then the one at Palma is huge with a wide variety of boats.

If you want to record social commentary then pop along to Magaluf at 7.30 a.m. ish for images of workmen hosing down the streets and picking up rubbish whilst the last party goers are still stumbling along the streets.

Thanks John, very helpful!

I've been a couple of times before and have driven all over the island, so going to the other side doesn't scare me!!

A sunset is a must so thanks for the tip!! I was thinking a trip over to Cala Millor/Cala Bona as it's a lovely place but I can't remember enough about it regarding photos ops....

I seem to remember Castillo de Bellver being an interesting place.....might take a drive up there too!!

That's a lot of driving for one session. I normally just cover a quarter of the island, at most, per day from a base near Llucmajor. The Llevant Peninsula is beautiful but the satnav keeps taking me up long roads which I ultimately have to return back down :( Take a detailed map ;)

If you're heading East then do Puig de San Salvador just east of Felanitx - monument and monastery - and an excellent cafe. And on to the little coves to the South East including Portocolom and Cala D'or area.

And when doing Palma, don't forget the Castillo de Sant Carles. Oh, the sewers pong a bit at the mo around the eastern end of the marina so close off your car aircon when going past ;)

Nearly forgot. The Cura Monastery near Randa, North of Llucmajor. Plan to go by to catch the late evening light.
