Ok, I've been recommended to buy the Sigma 10-20mm for my wide angle but its a bit pricey atm. Can anyone recommend a good alternative for my Nikon D80?

And Macro lenses, any suggestions?

Looking to spend around £200 ish...
 
Hi Charlottemarie, in terms of wide angle I'm not sure if there's much available brand new for the £200 mark but I think if you keep an eye out on the Classifieds you might be able to pick up a Tokina 12-24 secondhand for about £250. They are meant to be very good.
 
For £200 - I doubt it. The Sigma is supposed to be a very good lens though and you could probably get one for a little more, around £250-£275. Tokinas are also supposed to be good too. WHat lenses do you currently have?

One of the best value Macro lenses is the 90mm 2.8 Tamron. Second hand around £230 ish, maybe a touch less.
 
£200 is a bit low, but as close to that mark as possible, however for the right lens I'll save up and go for better.

What about the Tamron 18-270 mm f/3.5-6.3 DI II VC LD aspheric [IF] macro lens?

Saw an ad and seen a few good reviews, anyone here used it? At £350 its over my price range, but I'd be getting wide angle and macro in one so it then makes it within my budget lol...

But it needs to be good quality so if its not, its out, fair enough not £1000 quality but I'd like to go pro so needs to be durable...
 
Never used it, probably an ok walkabout lens for someone, but probably not for you. 18mm is not that wide, you probably have that anyway. Tamron and I think Sigma stick Macro on almost everything, most proper macro lenses are primes - i.e. 60mm, 90mm, 105mm. I would get either Tamron 90mm or the sigma 10-20 depending on what is more important to you, then save more and get the other.
 
Thats my issue, I can't decide what I want to do more of for now until I can buy the other! Macro or landscapes, macro or landscapes....

So I'm stupidly trying to get a two in one but like you say, the quality just won't be to good enough standards..

Grr, so frustrating!

That's very poor choice at any level including performance, value for money, build quality and so on.

Tamron 90mm is very sharp lens. I can confirm that from my [short, but positive] experience with it. A better macro will be Nikon 105mm for much more.
 
I've heard that the f/4 is actually better than the f/3.5. I've never used the f/3.5 but my f/4 is a fantastic lens and if you're looking at landscapes you don't need a fast lens anyway.
 
Mike is correct, every review pretty much says the f4 one is better and cheaper!
 
I had the older F4 Sigma 10-20 on my Sony A700 and it was probably my favourite lens, I couldn't recommend it enough although make sure you get a good copy as there are reports of variable quality on some of the Sigma's.
But I'd buy another in a heartbeat and probably will when I buy another DSLR.
 
Ok, ordered! Got a Sigma 10-20 f4 and a Tamron 90mm macro. Got it from Jessops on a 12 month interest free finance plan! Figured I could have both lenses now and start shooting rather than save the same amount I'd be paying to buy them in a year!

Also ordered a Lee foundation kit to hold my 0.75 hard nd grad filter and a Redsnapper tripod and ball head.

Actually can't wait to get them next week! Thanks for all the tips :)
