Maybe not. The speed of sound varies according to altitude. "Just" 660mph at 60,000 feet.

Your right I stand corrected so there is hope then.

MUCH more watchable than the vile americanised claptrap that is the X Fixtor.

Someones in for the sack...
Think that turned some cameras on..
Just watched the Q&A session. 833 mph Mach 1.24I haven't heard/seen if they've confirmed the speed yet....did he do it?
Awesome stuff....how would you top that!![]()
Just watched the Q&A session. 833 mph Mach 1.24
He also achieved longest freefall too.
Thats strange because on the video that I watched it said
terminal velocity 729mph
and he pulled the chute at 4:19 and the previous record was 4:30

Yet I heard 706mph with 4:19...
they were estimated speeds
he has the record for the longest in distance but not the longest in time, he pulled his chute at 5,100ft so couldnt have carried on for another 10seconds for that record

I liked that too, made me chuckle.i also liked Joseph kittingers comment of "id like to give a big one fingered salute to all those who thought he was going to fall to bits at those speeds"
Did anyone else's bum pucker up when he started to tumble?

Mine did that while he was stood on the edge of the "pod"
(but I bet his did, more so!)

when stood on the edge baumgartners words were "sometimes you have to go up really high to understand how small you are"
Didn't he add "I'm going home" to the end?
Great data for high altitude bail outs for astronauts I would have thought. Wonder why NASA never did this before.
