Reflections on a wasted day.

Yes
I took last Friday off to get a specific photograph for my 52.

I had all my ideas sorted out, all my props and the location was scouted.

I was driving there and it started to rain and the wind was blustery, to say the least.

Anyway, I arrived and it went from bad to worse. I spent about an hour trying to anchor my tripod and finally gave up.

I was livid, really annoyed because all my plans had amounted (after an hour or two) to nothing. It was like I saw red mist, my creativity vanished and I developed a kind of tunnel vision: I couldn't see any photographic opportunities!

I left after about 5 hours with nothing.

Now, after 6 days I've had a chance to reflect on the day and I really could "send myself to bed without any tea!".

I really missed some opportunities.

Even in the wind I could have go some good photographs. One thing I could have done was get into one of the dense woods and pulled out my torch, put my camera on f18, put on my ND filter and done some light painting.

I could also have done some macro shots, some abstract shots, some minimal shots, some self portraits, to name a few.

Anyway, I feel I've learnt a salutary lesson: if things don't go to plan - adapt!

Cheers.

Sympathise, been there, more than once. At least you've learnt the lesson the best way, hard.

And its a great illustration of the difference between an Amateur and a Pro. A Pro HAS to get the shot, no excuses! Its what puts the food on the table. If the plan isn't working then they have to change the plan. But SOMETHING suitable HAS to be produced.

As "Artists" of course we can just "Be creative when the karma is flowing".:D

Maybe its a bit like potty training. "Go on be a good boy and produce SOMETHING"!:gag:

Yeah, sounds painful and exciting!

If it was that windy, something to show it's effect.

Indeed, and, on reflection, that's another one I could have done.

Thanks.

I know how you feel... I was down in Manchester on Monday for a one hour photography job at 10 o'clock for work. On the way back to the office I was going to stop for a couple of hours at Ullswater, boathouse and pier were in my mind.

Got there and the lake was just about on the road, it was chucking it down and the sky was bland. Gutted. I passed a sign to a waterfall, now I'm sick of waterfalls but went anyway. The dismal day really put me into a downer and after viewing the shots the next day I can see my mind really wasn't on it and the shots are pretty average.

Sometimes you just need to realise that not everything will go to plan for you, just suck it up and do something else like you say.
