Hi,

I'm getting into studio photography and loving the 52 theme project on this thread and am starting to feel that a reflector would just take my photos that one step higher...

Can anyone recommend what I need to look for and where to get one from???

Not sure, hense the question. I suppose a silver and gold one would be good and a white and black for basics. I saw some on ebay but wasn't sure if they were any good...They all seemed a bit cheap...

it's a silver or gold sheet, or a bit of white diffuser. not too much to go wrong really. the 105cm ones are about £15 posted iirc, job's a good'un. Think flash does some lower spec'd ones on his page on here too.

Flash in the Pan (member and trader on here) sells that sort of thing, worth checking his thread out, nice guy to deal with as well.

I really like the Lastolite Tri-grip series because they can be held in one hand:

1. Your assistant can hold two, or

2. They can hold the tri-grip in one hand and fire a speedlite through and get some really nice soft light that is ultra-portable, or

3. you can hold your own tri-grip in one hand whilst shooting with the other

I have other reflectors that require two hands but I've never used them since I started using the tri-grips.

Hi,Reflectors are the making of portrait and macro, An idea I was given is to cut or buy a plastic sheet or collect some real estate signs, cut to fit your car boot. Spray with an etching product and then with whatever you deem as a good reflection for your local area given the light.and season. In your kit you can have gray's of varying shade plus all the creative ones you want, all permanent..Perhaps Grey from one side and another colour coming in from from the other, Easy to store as well." How come I have great ideas but no money" ?

Also another thing to bare in mind is size, the bigger the better in my opinion.

the 5 in 1s are pretty neat, just a diffuser middle bit and then a cover that zips around them with black, white, gold and silver on the four sides (2 sides * 'inside' + 'outside')

the tri grips are nice but pricey... FITP sells some imitation ones iirc, look pretty good.
