evening,

just picked up a 1dmk3 which has lead to some vignetting issues with my current sigma 18-50 f2.8 as its, im assuming optimised for 1.6 crop and not 1.3 as its sigmas DC format rather than DG.

the only real suggestion i can think of around the same price point (ish) would be the sigma 24-70 f2.8.

does anyone else have any ideas otherwise?

cheers :)

Well the Sigma is definitely APC-S only, so that's not a suprise.

Yes, read about lens compatibility before buying a new camera, not after :)

The Sigma will do fine.. Tamron 28-75 is much nicer, but going from 18mm on crop to 28mm on 1.3x is losing you quite a few mm on the wide..

The 24-70 would be the best. Obviously the Canon version would be superior but I would imagine the Sigma would be pretty good too.

Congrats on the purchase Neil.
I knew you wouldn't let us down and move over to the darkside :D

Canon 24-70. Other than that and for a lot less money Tamron 28-75 or sigma 24-70

I have the Sigma 28-70 and the Sigma 15-30. Both work great on the 1D.

Another lens which is quite cheap, works fine on full frame and has good quality stepped down is the Tokina/Tamron/Cosina 19-35mm f3.5-4.5

just received the 18-50's replacement, went for the sigma 50mm f1.4..

shallow-DOF-tastic! and my life its a big ol' stubby lens lol

Probably quite well suited to that big brick of a camera body you have then ;) I'd feel silly wearing the Sigma 50 on my baby camera though, heck the canon 50 is big enough already.

Whats the quality like on the Sigma wide open - I was pleasantly surprised at how good the Canon is.

it suits the 1D3 down to the ground, makes the whole thing look like a friggin tank lol

yeah really nice, lovely milky bokeh etc.

i'll do some proper "test" shots tonight, ive only taken a few test shots at work during lunch of potentially sensitive documents so cant show you those lol

I guess like me you have all your toyz delivered to work? Our postman is getting rather used to big 'packages' arriving for me by now...
