Replacement HDD for a MBP 13"

Anyone recommend any replacement drives, 250GB and up?

My current drive is just about to reach its limit so want to upgrade it but not at all clued up on drives and which one to go for so any suggestions greatly received.

The MacBook Pro 13" take 2.5" SATA hard drives internally, think Seagate and WD offer these.

Are you after a 5400 or 7200 speed. 7200 will be faster but drain the speed, 5400 will be slower but better on the battery.

The macbook will take any SATA 9.5mm drive. You can use a 7200rpm one but they do tend to run a little warmer than the 5400rpm drives but not too warm. Modern 7200rpm drives will not really affect the battery life much maybe 5 mins or so.

You can use 12.5mm height drives in new unibody MacBook Pros. Itss not advertised, nor does Apple use any themselves AFAIK, but they fit in my GFs 13" MBP.
 
Thanks guys will have a little look at the recommendations.

Darren, I have boot camp running Windows 7 for when I have to use the work server so if I put the new drive in a caddy and run disk utility to Restore the existing drive to the new drive will this cover the bootcamp partition too do you know?

You can stick them in the older 17" macbook pros too :thumbs: 1TB !!

If you use Super Duper you will need to make sure that it copies both partitions.
 
Not sure it's not something I normally do. I normally run a pc emulator using a file partition

I'll give a vote for this HDD. Got it in my 13" MBP and battery still lasts 5-6hrs. It starts up quicker, loads LR Previews quicker and generally better than standard 160GB HDD. Only downside is the slightly warmer running than standard.

I have one in my MBP too :) Even though it was replacing a 200Mb Seagate 7200rpm drive it is still an improvement.
 
i brought from ebuyer

western digital 7200rpm 320gb
i haven't really noticed much difference in heat or battery drain

very quick to boot up etc.

Modern 7200 rpm drives are approaching the previously slower drives on heat and efficiency. It makes a great upgrade changing the drive though :)
