Revisiting Photos

As the weathers pants, and I'm not really into macro photography or owt, I'm at a bit of a loose end as the missus is out. My photoshop skills are improving a little, so I'm scouring my hard drive for photos I've taken since the middle of 2007 when I bought my 1st SLR, for any photos that I thought were average at the time, to see if I can bring them to life with a bit of PS magic (cropping, levels, that kind of thing).

Does anybody else do this, or do people tend process the ones they want to keep at the time, then bin the rest??

I'm having fun anyway!!! :D

Absolutely.

My PP skills were appalling 12 months ago, thanks to CT,Richard Peters and others on here, they have improved a lot. Some photos I took last year were crap i thought, but with my new found skills they can be improved a lot.

I never get around to processing all of my personal shots at the one time so quite often I will keep them and go back to them a year later.

whenever its a rainy day im either on TP, reading a mag, or creating some photographic essentials out of my material from my last diy project. i do however go on photoshop and edit old photo's .

I tend to edit on the run, so duplicates, test shots OOF images get dumped at time of import. I then edit those I am going to use and have another look at the ones I've kept. Those I will never use get dumped. If I have doubt I keep.

Those I really like get stuck in my own personal collection, which I also review every now and again. Collections are a great feature of Lightroom.

I must admit reviewing images that I took sometime ago does on occasions reveal that odd gem Id forgotten about, and not added to my collection.

have to agree with what's already been said, but I do tend now that memory is so much cheaper to in RAW, bin the bad uns and play around for a week or two with the good uns then burn the RAW to CD and record what's on the CD to a document (when I say I do it, I mean my beloved do'es

Cheers Paul

I'll bin those that are crap i.e. out of focus, too far under/over exposed to recover or badly composed, but I tend to keep the rest. I'm learning all the time so I don't want to throw away that which I could use in the future.

I've just been looking at some shots from Sept 2008 which I haven't done anything with and I thought, "some of these are quite good. Why haven't I done anything with them yet?"

There was another thread here a while ago about keeping images and there were some good reasons given for doing so e.g. emotional attachment to the subject matter.

Also, I tend to hoard! :D

That's definitely me, I'm a horder too!! I was looking back through some shots I took in the far east (Beijing, Hong Kong, Shanghai) last year, but they were as bad I thought they were!! :(

I'm a major hoarder.. I though it'd ended with the spare room being filled with my... stuff, but no.. I've managed to use up the majority of my boyfriends HD too so I had to buy another one.. oops!

But revisiting old shots, yes I do that all the time!!!

i normally do a quick kinda batch process as soon as i get home and delete the amazingly out of focus shots or those of the floor, then will get a majority of the good ones printed around the 8"x12" size and bin the ones that just don't look right. then after a few weeks i'll return to them cutting them down to the ones which i would be happy to print a1. i should by then have high percentage of pics that i really like. sometimes i end up missing whole chunks of photos to edit because i've taken too many. oops

I do this quite a lot. I get rid of anything that's OOF/blurred/generally crap straight away, but I only started doing any sort of PP at all in the second half of last year. There's loads that I need to go back through and improve, especially since I'm considering getting a Blurb book made.

I've been doing this recently with sets from last year, its amazing what gems are hidden under 1,000 other poor frames. Archiving some older stuff for peace of mind as well.
