Have any of you used a Ricoh GR1, and if so what did you think?

I haven't used one personally, but I have certainly read some very good reviews about it, in particular regarding the quality of the lens. I know it was quite an expensive camera when it was first released, sometime in the mid-90s if I'm not mistaken. This was followed by the GR1s.

Rikenon lenses are rather nice, in fact for standard kit they are excellent even now.

Bit behind the curve on this one - in answer to your Q - yes, I have a GR1s and the results are consistently great. It's a noisy little bugger but worth it!

Remember that it pulls the film all the way out when you load it and then pulls each exposed section into the canister.

Yeah, my old EOS did that.

It does make a hell of a noise!!

Hi. Pleased for you. Superb lens used mine as a lightweight for walking. Took it on our boat in Croatia and cleverly dropped it over the side in very deep water. Lovely and clear too, watched it till it was out of sight.

Any idea what the thinking was behind doing it the 'wrong'way around? Any advantage of doing it that way?

If you accidentally open the back mid roll then the shots you've taken are safe.

Ah..offcourse; now that you explain, I am thinking, why wasn't this adopted as industry standard.....such a neat idea

It does take a while for it load itself though... but it's quick when a rolls finished!
