Rise in website links

I have two websites, both have had dramatic rises in the number of inbound links reported by Google webmaster tools, the first, which had about 25 inbound links, has risen to 716, the second had 39 links, has risen to over 1500.
Has anyone else had this happen?

Yes this has also happend to me, I had 52 links to my website and this is now 1400! Very strange!

ts happened to me also, I *think* the way inbound links are reported has changed - it used to only show links about 6 weeks or less old now its showing all links

Ah, now that makes sense because, when viewing the link results, it only shows around a hundred, maybe it is reporting the life long links of the site but, has a cut off date for displaying.
It will be interesting to see if this is released by Google, can't find anything on it so far.
