Ryzen

I want to be excited, but personally I'd certainly wait for some actual real world reviews and benches before joining the hype train. Anyone remember the AMD bulldozer hype..

Also having an unreleased CPU that is competitive with Intels current 6000 series is okay, but how will it compare with Intels next impending releases? Will the un-announced AMD boost account for that?

Ultimately it's going to depend on price point, it needs to be much cheaper than the Intel alternative.

It will be nice for Intel to have a bit of competition again we might get a bit more bang for buck across both options.

Keeping open minded, history is not on the side of AMD and best to wait for some independent reviews as I simply don't believe their hype/tests.

Would be good to have affordable performance though so let's wait and see !

If real world workload and bench marking show what has been promised, then it could be interesting especially if it is a bit lower than the respective Intels. Hopefully I will not be building a complete new system for a bit but if AMD does well then it would be back on the consideration for next time.

Looking forward to this. Plan to upgrade in the new year and hoping they cause a price war.

it will be interesting to see the prices for AMD... if they can make it around 60% of intel's price - i think we will have some proper competition here... guess time will show :)

Initial reviews are pretty impressive.

Although sounds like a lot of teething issues with motherboards and memory.

Given a few months to iron out the glitches this could actually be the start of the amd vs Intel war again..

Given the already price difference and the mixed intel line up I doubt that.

$500 chip 8/16 sitting a smudge below an intel chip (6900k) at $1050 but above an intel (6800k) $800 part is great for the multi tasking part however the $500 part sits below the single threaded performance and low core count multi performance intel (7700k) in most tests at $350....

Memory support will help bridge the gap to a certain extent leaving it a bargain against the 6900k and 6800k but for the average user with an i7 4770k (4/8t) your not going to get your money's worth and that is where the majority of the market sits.

i have just bought an 8 core amd fx process for my vmware workstation and it is very fast ans so well priced.

Just finished a Ryzen 5 build ... for a pal,,, and impressed with the difference in stitching panos together, time has nearly halved.

Anyone in the market for a for a new build deffo wants to look at Ryzen

Great timing! I'm seriously thinking about a build that I specced on pc specialist. When I say build, they'll do it for me! Can anyone cast a critical eye over this for me?

This is the quote I got. Pricing it all up on Scan it comes in about £200 cheaper, but as I will struggle to build one, I think that will be a worthwhile price?

change the MB, you don't need a 370 board..... or soundcard or Thermal paste ,,,,,,,,, only takes a couple of hours to put together ,,,,,, I always use scan,,, as great customer service

try above link

Id would be more interested in seeing the Ryzen 5 in there review against an i5 .... good read all the same

Agreed but you have to wonder if Ryzen 5 vs i5 would yield similar results just at a different point in the CPU grunt spectrum.

The way AMD are marketing it,,, is about cost ,,, Intel have been screwing people for years,, now the tide is turning... ill take my chances with a Ryzen 1600, instead of buying a i5 7600 ,,,,

I'd argue for a standard SSD, something like a Samsung 850 Evo, over the M.2.

Unless you've previously used an m.2 drive, you really aren't going to notice much difference - apart from being £100 lighter in your pocket (which could be used to improve the gpu should you wish to).

Agree with the previous posted on the MB as well, a B350 would more than likely be sufficient.

Hope this brings back the competitive AMD from early 2000's when they were destroying Intel (home market).

Looks good on paper for photo editing too.

What did you settle on, Nick? Did you get the above build?

I went for that spec Chuckoir. Expecting delivery in 10 days or so. I'll report back as to it's performance once it's landed

Excellent, I would be very interested to hear your thoughts. I am looking to build/buy a new windows pc and this looks to be a great spec. Look forward to hearing your thoughts Nick.
