i have been using raw a lot and use the olympus master 2 software
also
oloneo photoengine and picassa 3

saving the finished article on the oly suite gives me a choice of three grades of jpeg and for the high quality choice how many pixels/inch

its normally set for 400...is that sufficient...i have been trying 600 and may be overdoing it getting the filesize too big for uploading effectively

any help please
cheers

I normally set mine to 300 pixels/inch for print and 72 for images that I will be showing on my blog but 400 is fine if that is what you're happy with.

Dave

cheers dave..just what i needed to know
and will use 400 for the website here
thanks again
geof

Unless you are allowing the software to resize the image when you change the ppi, it's a meaningless figure and does nothing when you change it. Monitors that people use to view images on the web will display the image at the native resolution of the monitor, typically 100ppi these days.

If you are going to work on the saved image at a later date, then you should NOT save as a JPEG. JPEGs are compressed files and each time you open and save, they will be compressed again, thereby leading to a loss of quality, which is why JPEGs are called "lossey" files.

That's why I love this forum you learn something new everyday.
Cheers
