Scratching that full frame itch...

... I still shoot occasional film, which was my only fullframe fun alongside my 7D. I've been thinking of picking up a 5D for quite a while, or possibly a 5DmkII. The mkII has gone up in price due to recent events, and even second hand are fetching £1400. The thing is though I don't shoot planned or stationary shots very much, AF speed and flexibility is quite important to me... so... I've just picked up a 1DsmkII for a lot less than a second hand 5DmkII

Ok I know the ISO performance isn't there, but after checking my Lightroom library only 500 out of 10k shots were above ISO1600 (and most of those were at one rugby match!). So I decided it wasn't as important, and what the hell lets give it a go.

It's great to have a 1D body again, I really missed my old 1D3 and the shutter noise of the 1Ds2 is fantastic! I only picked it up today so have only messed around with some test shots, I can't wait to give it a good run out

Hopefully with selling some other bits of kit I can keep both the 7D and 1Ds2, which should make for a good action setup

Anyone else still using the 1DsmkII?

Sounds like you've got a good deal there chap. If you get round to scratching that 5DII itch I'd suggest you get a price from Kerso before looking to spend up to £1400 on a used one.
My bodies are t'other way round: 1DII and 5DII, so I've scratched both FF and high fps rate on 1.3 crop.

When I downgraded from my 1D3 I very nearly went with a 1DII and a 5D. I really wish I had as I wasn't happy with the 40D, or the 50D that followed and ended up back with a 7D! I do like the 7D though, but I'm not sure I am a two camera person...

I've been thinking about moving to FF for some time but 2nd hand 5D2 prices are just stupid right now. You'd almost be crazy to buy a 2 yr old camera when £200 more you get a new one.
I'm waiting for prices to level out and for that elusive 5D3.

I'm running a 1Ds Mk1 for landscape stuff, the results are lovely even if it is old fashioned to use, small screen etc.

I think a move to a 1Ds Mk2 will be my next move (unless I push the boat out and buy a digital back for my Mamiya!!)

I bought a 1Ds II a little while ago s/h on here and it's a GREAT camera!

I was looking at the 5DII or a 7D but decided on the 1Ds II because the resolution at high ISO (3200) was much better than either the 5D II or the 7D.

And I have not been disappointed either in the camera or the results.

Just under a grand with two batteries. It's got a couple of rub marks and the usual hot shoe wear, but apart from that it's in really good nick.

I was supposed to be waiting for the 5D3\D800, but I'm not very patient! I was going to rent a 5D2, but thought I might as well buy second hand and get a few months use out of something and then sell it. I'll probably lose less than the rental would've cost for a week! If the 5D3 is the dogs, I'll probably sell both the 7D and 1DsmkII, but at the moment I'm a happy chap

The controls are quirky to say the least, and the screen is "cute". The shutter sound is lovely, sad I know but it puts my 7D clunk to shame. The ISO isn't as bad as I thought, and I can see why some say it is film grain like. I just need to get out and shoot with it now!
