Screech Owl Sanctuary

Love the expression and eye contact. Owls are so photogenic. What equipment and settings were you using? I know it can be dark in those enclosures even on a decent day.

Hey Bender sorry for the late reply. I was using a Tamron 70-300 on my Nikon D300s. At Screech Sanctuary they have a small selection of their owls tethered in a semi circle all with their own box to sit in so I managed to snap him at ISO 200.

I thought it was a a great idea because it means you don't have to worry about the wire mesh and as you said dark enclosures.

Can I ask what equipment you were using for your shot? That looks great considering your at 12,800, I remember when I first started looking at digital cameras and anything above 800 was a real problem.

Yeah that is a good idea. Normally you have to shoot through the mesh which is pretty hit and miss. That shot was taken on a 5D mk3 with the 100-400 mk I. I was being careless about that as I could have used a much slower shutter speed and lowered the ISO.
