Screen brightness

I've been trying really hard to set up my screen properly, but I'm having a nightmare. I've tried sorting the brightness and gamma, but I simply cannot lower the brightness enough to register the correct level using Quickgamma or any other calibration software or chart.

What monitor have you got?

LG Flatron L1760TR.

How ar you doing it On the on screen menu?
I have teh L203WT and it all OK with mine

Yeah, through the on screen menu. got the brightness down to minimum and it's still showing as too bright on the gamma chart.

Nope. Don't have the gear. How will that alter the brightness though?

Just had a friend (I should have asked him first!) who's a semi-pro offer to lend me his calibration unit.
