I have just rebooted my system to XP default settings, + updated windows.
I am trying to adjust the screen resolution from the default from 800 x 600 to suit my HP w2216 monitor with the slider, i have loaded the drivers from the CD, but cannot get the screen resolution to change from 800 x 600.
I tried to go into the settings - advance - monitor - default monitor and properties, but cannot change it there either.

any ideas please before i chuck the dam thing out the door..

cheers...,

That sounds like either your video card or monitor drivers are not installed correctly and hence you do not have the option to go higher than 800x600

Hi Darren, that makes sence.
would you know where i can go to check my card drivers or check which card i am using, as i have some various software here and not sure which one is on board....

thanks..

I'm going with graphics drivers not being installed/loading correctly. Do you know what Graphics card is in there?

No luck changing it from:

Right click on desktop - Properties - Settings?

Modern graphics cards usually all come with all the resolutions supported without the drivers.

Thats where i began, but the slider will not move, it seems to be set to a default of 800x 600...

In control panel select system and then hardware and have a look through the hardware installed. Is there an exclamation mark next to monitor or graphics cards?

Have any idea what graphics card you have? Or at least if its Nvidia/Ati? I know Nvidia have an auto-driver thing on their website that chooses the right driver.

Not sure, is the a way i can check ?.Its been some time/yrs since i rebooted and have loads of various software lying around. if i knew what graphics card was in there i could either down load online or match with a CD i have lying around..

thanks.

in device manger I can't see the Graphics Card , but can see a question + exclamation mark against other divices 1; Video Controler (VGA Compatible)
2;multi media audio controler.

not sure if i am in the right place..

Yup that means drivers not installed or loaded correctly.

or on your soundcard as well

What is your graphics card?

Is it a separate card or built onto the motherboard?

If it is on the motherboard then what motherboard is it?

Do you have a folder on the hard drive with a nme like drivers or nvidia or ATI. Drivers may be on the system soclicking on vga and selecting update drivers may find them.

Just instaled the drivers from the GeForce FX 5200 CD, loaded ok, made the changes, now the screen has gone abstract, screen resolution now at 640 x 480, with a colour setting lowest 4 bit. seems the software/drivers are to old for the system, trying to look for an update download..
