Sd card

Hi all, I recently bought a new class 10 8gb sd card and have been using it and when done with photo's I've had to format them to delete them as I'm reading the card through printer and for some reason I can't delete them after uploading them!
Anyway after formatting the card a couple of times there seems to be memory on it used I.e card no longer empty is this normal! I thought when you format a card it should wipe it completely!!!

An 8gb card won't be 8gb when formatted as the file system itself takes up some space.

Have you got the lock on the side of the card in the locked position, which will stop it emptying the card. Or are any of the photos protected which may do the same. As Gareth said, you wont get a totally empty card when it formats as the read/write software has to remain on the card.

unfortunately due to the technology used, SD cards will actually get smaller as you use them as the hardware detects bad sectors and removes access to them. SD cards also wear out faster than other storage devices such as CF.
