SD SDHC or Extreme

Im looking at buying a few SD cards for my D90, but Im unsure what is better.

Q1: Do I buy 2x 16GB ones or 4x 8GB ones?

Q2: Do I go for the Extreme ones, 20MB/s, 30MB/s

Q3: What does Class 6 or Class 10 mean?

I will be shooting family, pets, the odd project and a few weddings.

Smaller cards means that if something goes wrong before you've had chance to back them up, you lose less. I take 3/4 cards for a week's holiday. But obviously there are sensible limits - you don't want to be happily shooting something and find you've got to stop and change cards over. Most of mine are 8GB, but you might want the larger ones if you like to shoot thousands of pictures a day, or if you do a lot of HD video.

Unless you're doing HD video or lots of rapid-fire shooting, you're unlikely to notice any difference between 20-30MB/s. Class 6 and 10 are just different ways of stating the speed, but they're not always consistent between manufacturers.

For what it's worth, all my cards are SanDisk Extreme III's.

are class 10 faster at storing info than class 6 ??
smaller cards mean less pic lost if they mess up

I tend to use several 8mb extreem cards, as if one goes "belly up" I have not lost too many photos.
