Yes
Just got a 500D and have watched a couple vids on the movie mode,How can you determine if the card is 6 speed or better?

It might say class 6 on it.

Hmmm, I have an 8gig with a 2 in a circle,And a different type(sanDisk) Ultra 11 4gig that says 15mb/s but it two has a 2 in a circle.

From memory, see what I said there :D, they are graded in relation to the write speed,

Class 2: 2 MByte/s
Class 4: 4 MByte/s
Class 6: 6 MByte/s

I guess i should just try it in the camera and see if it works, cant do any harm.:bonk:

This is my first post, so hope it helps. (I'm going to need to ask far more questions than I give answers to).

As others have said the number on the SD card usually corresponds to the cards minimum sustained transfer speed. (see this link)

http://www.sdcard.org/developers/tech/speed_class/

Although I haven't found the details on the sdcard.org website it looks as though things have moved on and panasonic announced class 10 cards last year. However, the class only relates to the minimum sustained transfer rate.

As the article below explains it can be fairly difficult to determine the actual transfer rate being achieved by a card.
