It now seems that 500GB external storage is no longer anywhere near enough for me, so I'm about to invest in a 2TB drive.

But could somebody more IT literate please tell me are there any key differences between these two similarly-priced Seagate products and which is better?:

Seagate Expansion 2TB External Hard Drive, USB 2.0 (£73.15)

Seagate FreeAgent Go Flex 2TB Desktop USB 2.0 External Hard Drive with Capacity Guage (£79.86)

The first appears to be a barebones external drive with no backup/sync software included. the second will let you do the following according to their website "Ensures automatic continuous backup and protects your privacy with powerful encryption software
Lets you upgrade to a faster interface to increase your transfer speeds when paired with another GoFlex Desk desktop adapter". Depends on what your needs are backup wise.
 
Thanks for taking the time to reply chaps. Sorry if I'm being daft, but what does 'interchangeable interfaces' mean?

Does all this mean that the Go Flex transfers data quicker if you're transferring files from one Go Flex hard drive to another? I can't say I need any of that now, but you never know in the future.

Are there any downsides to the Go Flex compared to the Expansion? Will it be more complicated to do a simple back-up of files?
 
Ok thanks, so I may as well spend the extra 6 quid or so just in case I ever need any of those extra functions.
 
For £6 I would go with the GoFlex - but the Expansion is a good drive - I buoght a 1.5Tb one a few months ago to allow backups of pics and video files. I already had seagate tools installed from my main drive and just used the backup functionality in that.
 
Thanks for all the advice guys, I did indeed purchase the Go Flex just now, for the sake of an extra £6 it was worth it for the extra options in the future.
