Second Camera - Backup/Filming Duties (Canon)

Hi All,

I'm currently doing a bit of research into a second camera, that'll serve as a backup/foray into filming workhorse.

I've got a 5dc that operates as the main shooter, so I'd prefer a Canon camera so I can use my current lenses.

Budget is quite modest (£150-250 at a push), from what I have seen a 1100d or 550d may fit the bill (second hand).

But curious to see if I have missed anything obvious?

It also needs to have kit readily available for a beginner filmmaker (mics, rigs etc.)

A friend has the 60D - he went from a 450D and this was one of the main things he was raving about, it made such a difference to him.

Not sure how much they go for 2nd hand though...

Thanks guys, had a quick look and they seem to be around the £300 mark for a used example, some with lenses got for a little more.

I'll have a more concise look later and see what I can find.

From reading though, it looks like video making requires a lot more kit than I first thought! I'll need to see if my budget can stretch or this might have to be put on the back burner for the foreseeable! :(

You'd be better saving a little while and getting something that will do what you want, rather than making do with something that you can afford now - you can always add kit at a later stage if / when you feel you need it, rather than because someone etc says "for video you need this, this and this" ...

Very true, thanks Andy, video being more of a whim I think I'll look into upgrading some of my glass first. Going full-frame I lost some of my good lenses, seems the sensible route at least! (that'd be a first!).
