Hi, recently moved from a nikon d200 to a D90. I've noticed that in sunny conditions, shadows around eyes etc. Seem a lot more pronounced. If I try fill in flash the highlights get blown out. Normally shoot in aperture mode. Didn't have this issue with the D200. anyone know where I might be going wrong? I,ve heard about D lighting but don't really understand it. Normally have d lighting set to auto.

Thanks in advance.

Are you shooting jpg? If you are, try turning the contrast down.

Thanks - yes I am shooting jpeg. Thanks for the quick reply. Will give that a try.

Just noticed that with Active D lighting set to auto, I can't adjust the contrast. If I turn active D lighting off, the shadows get worse.

What do others do with their active D lighting setting? Auto or off?

Thanks - what software do you use for RAW? I have been thinking of taking the plunge and moving away from JPEG but am just worried I won't get round to uploading them to the PC if there is another involved step in between.

Anyone reccomend something fairly easy and not too pricey?

I use nikon nx view at moment. It is in the cd that come with you in the camera. All I do on it is to mess about with the picture control , sharpness i.e all the basic stuff. It is a good place to start.
