These are some shots I took in Shanghai last weekend. I bought Understanding Exposure and began reading it on the flight, it encoutraged me to move from Av and try manual, these are some of my first attempts. I feel empowered and more in control of how the photo looks now. Let me know what you think.

Nice work. I am off to China in July/August. I'll be in Shanghai towards the end of my 3 week trip. Can't wait.

First one is awesome.

The second two...well, they could be any small city anywhere really. They don't capture the scale of a city like Shanghai IMO.

#1 is a very nice image. love the tones in the foreground and the crisp lights in the bg.

i like the other 2 but they don't shout Shanghai or even big city.

i'm sure you had a great time though

I love them all, the first one is so intriguing because you know something has moved past but you dont know what!

Thanks for the feedback so far. I agree the second 2 don't show the scale of the city, #2 tells a story for me. The flags flying above the buildings are those of China, yet the architecture is distinctly un-Chinese.

Re James, Shanghai is a cracking city, China is mostly a fantastic place with amazing people. Enjoy.

1st is easily the winner for me. Adds some mystery to a traditional shot but it is very well captured. Great colours, composition and concept.
